Keynote Presentation:  "Ways of the Sailor: 10 Things the Sea Taught Me" – Captain David Kilmer

When you sail over the horizon in a small boat, you leave the familiar world behind and encounter a set of new challenges. Making that journey was a life changing experience for this boat captain, who shares what he learned along the way.

Kilmer is the author of "A Peril to Myself and Others: My Quest to Become a Captain".  It is filled with stories of Kilmer's adventures on water.  Some are incredible, and yes, all are true. Because they are what happens when you live life.

David Kilmer grew up in seven houses and three countries. As a kid he made a collection of bullets and bomb fragments from the streets of Beirut, Lebanon, and he learned to drive dodging buffalo and giraffe in a Peugot 504 in the game parks of Kenya. After college at Walla Walla University, he worked as a wildland firefighter, EMT, small town reporter, sailing instructor, ski bum and magazine editor. But none of this prepared him for the absolute joy, terror and moment-by-moment purity of being a Caribbean boat captain. David lives in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and Barra de Navidad, Mexico and travels at every possible chance.  David is also the editor of CdA Magazine
